We’ve still got loads of  tapestry events happening over the next couple of months at the museum to celebrate the incredible tapestries, and to help us all appreciate them just a little bit more. So whether you’re an expert or a novice, there’s something for you to do here…

Wee Wednesday
Wednesday 7 April, 2.00 – 4.00pm, free, drop in
Drop in to the Burrell Collection for museum fun for the under-5s! Parents and carers can join in too as we discover new ways to learn and play together. Suitable for children aged 2 – 4 years.

Tapestry Story Sack – Rabbits
From Saturday 17 April
Tell your own tapestry tale! Explore our most popular tapestry with a story written especially for children under 5. Now, who can spot the bear…?
This story sack contains a story and props to help families explore “Peasants Hunting Rabbits with Ferrets.” Suitable for families with children under 5.

Tapestries: A New Interpretation Works
16 April – 11 July
Explore our new display of works with the artists who made them. Creative Collages is the first in this series of fascinating workshops.

Creative Collages
Wednesday 21 April
10.00am -12 noon, free, booking required
Mix modern materials with traditional tapestries to inspire a contemporary work of art using the collage technique. This workshop complements the curator’s Favourite Talk at 12.30pm, and will be run by Rosemary Scanlon, as part of the Tapestries: A New Interpretation  exhibition.

Strictly Renaissance with Danse Ecosse!

Back by popular demand, Danse Ecosse put you through your paces with this demonstration of Renaissance dances. If you’re feeling fit…why not join in?

Weaving: Past Present and Future – Take 2!
Sunday 9 May, 10.30am -4.00pm
Burrell’s Tapestries Behind the scenes explores the stories behind the tapestries. Find out more about the research project, discover what’s happening in weaving today with the Dovecot weavers, and explore the future of the craft with a contemporary artist. The afternoon gives you the chance to create your own mini-tapestry.  Please note  this is a repeat of the 27 February Study day, and lunch is not provided. Places are free but limited, booking required.

From Wool to Weft – Take 2!
Sunday 16 May, 10.30am – 4.00pm
How did they do it? Discover how a medieval tapestry was made in this practical workshop. Delve deep into the world of wool and silk to turn natural fibres into weaving yarn and uncover the secrets of dyeing without using synthetic chemicals. Materials are provided. Please wear old clothes. Not suitable for children under 14. 
 Please note, this is a repeat of the 6 March Study Day, and lunch is not provided. Places are free but limited, booking required.

Film at the Burrell
Saturdays 15  May and 12 June, 2.00pm
Film at the Burrell kicks off with two feature films relating to the tapestries in the collection and the societies that produced them. Film at the Burrell is our free film programme, exploring the collections through film.

Adult Art – Weaving Without Wool – Pottery
Sunday 23 May
2.00pm – 4.00om, free, booking required
Join potter Stef Baxter in this art workshop to discover how to weave…with clay.

Drop in weaving
Friday 28 May, 2.00 – 4.00pm, free, drop in
Drop in to meet the weaver, Jonathan Cleaver and find out the secrets of the craft…and maybe have a go yourself.

Tufting Tapestries
Sunday 30 May, 2.00 – 4.00pm, free, drop in
Create your own tapestry with modern materials. For the best results, bring along some wrapping paper or old clothes cut into long strips. Suitable for children aged seven and over. 

Titanic Tapestries
Monday 31 May, 2.00 – 4.00pm, free, drop in
Help us make an enormous version of one of the tapestries, and bring along some scrap material to contribute to this giant collage.

June

 Weaving Class
Sunday 6 June
2.00 – 4.00pm, free, booking required
Worried about your weft? Weary of your warp? Then come along to our weaving class with Jonathan Cleaver of the Dovecot Weavers, and pick up some new tricks. Please note this workshop is not suitable for beginners.

 Troublesome Textiles
Wednesday 9 June
3.00pm, free
The tapestry research project involves looking after the material the tapestries are made of. In this workshop, conservator Maggie Dobbs gives hints and tips on how to care for your special textiles. Please bring along any special item you are concerned about. So, look out those christening gowns, and wedding dresses – the surgery is open!
